The European Commission originally pitched the omnibus proposal to delay the entry into force of a key part of the AI law’s rules – those concerning high-risk systems – as companies are still waiting for compliance guidance.
While MEPs and EU countries quickly united in supporting the delay, the package picked up a hodgepodge of other asks during talks, including a ban on “nudifier” AI systems. The trilogues also nearly ended up fundamentally rewriting how the AI Act applies to industrial sectors such as machinery, toys and watercraft. (...)
