Today, the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly took action to submit resolution A/C.2/80/L.42 on Consumer Product Safety, containing the UN Principles for Consumer Product Safety, to the Plenary.
This is the first-ever UNGA resolution on product safety, and UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is proud to serve as the UN focal point for this critical new area of global cooperation.
Every day, unsafe products cause injuries, fires, environmental harm—and too often, tragedy. Billions of consumers still live without adequate legal protection.
The new UN Principles provide the world’s first globally agreed framework to strengthen laws, institutions, and cooperation so that all consumers, everywhere, can trust that the products they buy are safe. (...)
