Digital Services Act investigation will look into online child grooming risks and concerns over the sale of illegal goods to minors, the Commission said
The Commission opened a Digital Services Act (DSA) investigation into social messaging platform Snapchat on Thursday, citing suspected grooming risks and other child safety concerns.
It said the probe would include a focus on whether the platform allows minors to be contacted by users with a harmful intent, including people who are seeking to sexually exploit children or recruit minors into criminal activities.
During a briefing with press, a senior Commission official said there was a concern that adults might be misstating their ages and posing as minors on Snapchat – linked to grooming risks. This was not a component of other age assurance investigations against TikTok or Meta, they said. (...)
