Agrifood Brief: Fish and the City

 


While Brussels gets ready for an ‘unusual’ fisheries quota night, the European Commission is trying every way to strengthen synergies between economic and environmental interests in the sector.

It’s finally December, and it’s that time of the year again.

And no, we’re not talking about Christmas – although it’s beginning to look a lot like that as well.

We’re talking about the iconic, tiresome, late-night talks on fishing quotas that take place in Brussels every December.

A couple of years ago, the Austrian EU ambassador was wondering on Twitter how, of all the topics discussed at the Council, it is always fisheries that lead to all-nighters (the fact he is from a land-lock country did not help with his amazement). (...)
